Working the BJJ Spider Guard

February 25, 2013

In class tonight, Jeff went over some of the stuff he brought back from the recent seminar with Neiman Gracie. I mentioned that he went to this seminar in my “Exploring the BJJ Scissor Sweep” post. What’s exciting is that the techniques we worked tonight revolved around the Spider Guard.

Spider Guard is up my alley. It’s perfect for guys who like to play open guard and use their legs. I would fall into this category, so as soon as I walked in the door this evening, I jumped on the computer and looked for some videos featuring Neiman showing moves from this arena. I couldn’t find any – all I saw were some competitions. I kept looking and eventually came across some videos I really liked from Master Ricardo Cavalcanti in Las Vegas. I’ll post them below.

Before I do that though, I’d like to mention that I really enjoyed tonight’s class. It was more advanced in nature and let me use the tools I was built with. What I would like to do it to continue working on building the Spider Guard and see if there’s anything you can do with no-gi. This, of course, would come after exploring what gi has to offer. But just to whet your whistle, check out what I posted below.
