I was just walking around the back yard, looking towards our pear tree, when I stopped to check out the little yellow flowers that cover most of the grassy areas. As I looked down at the ground, I noticed a few small red fruits. Upon further inspection, I discovered what I’d like to call, Wild Strawberries (or in some circles, Fragaria vesca).
As I wandered around to see if what I found was isolated, I stumbled upon many, many more little unripened berries. These things are everywhere.
From what I read, these strawberries are edible. I don’t think we’re going to pick them or anything. I do think we’ll eat them as we pass them during our escapades though. See that – another benefit to not mowing the lawn!
