I just wrote another post where I displayed a few different photographs of what I think may be fatwood. I wanted to post a few pictures here as well to get any opinions anyone may want to offer. I don’t know how much crossover there is between posts, so I wanted to cover all my bases.
To make a long story short, I found a really dead looking stump out in the woods a few days ago. Even though it was dead, it was pretty tough. It took me a few minutes to shake it around and finally kick it over. When I got it on the ground, I left it for a few days. I went back out today with my hatchet and I began chopping through the dead parts of the wood to get to the center. I was hoping for some fatwood. What I found was some solid wood that smelled a heck of a lot like pine. I know I haven’t split any of this wood or shaved it yet to see if it actually lights, but I still wanted to post this to get some opinion on the topic. Does this look like fatwood to you? What does fatwood look like anyway? I honestly don’t think this is simply wet wood. It’s far too solid and not rotten at all to be that.
