I recently upgraded my WordPress install to the latest and greatest version 4.0, or otherwise known as “Benny.” While I’m sure there are many interesting new features and gadgets to play with, I’m also sure the creators of this version weren’t aware of how extremely annoying the new “expandable editor” option can be.
Basically, the new expandable editor changes the height and volume of your editing area to fit your screen size. I’m not sure why this is necessary or important. Perhaps if people are posting from smart phones or tablets, this would be useful. For those more traditional folks, such as myself, who use laptops and desktops, the tried and true fixed editor works very well. Thank you.
So, how do you turn off the expandable editor if you don’t like it? Well, that’s easy. Simply move your mouse to the top right area of your screen and click the “Screen Options” box.
Next, unclick the “Expand the editor to match the window height” box on the left side.
Once this is completed, the editor should snap back to your original settings. Click the “Screen Options” tab again to remove the area that just lowered down and you should be all set. If you have any issues, please leave a comment and I’ll try to help.
