Trimming Shrubs and Weeding

August 4, 2013

I did a lot of work outside yesterday. Honestly, my goal was only to trim a few shrubs out front and call it a day. I didn’t want to go overboard. But what I ended up doing was trimming three shrubs out front, hack down a big tree-like bush on the side along with some smaller shrubs, cut two more shrubs on the other side of the house pretty much in half and pull up and stack almost all of the cement edges. Not bad for a day’s work.

I always end up doing things like this. I go outside with the intention of doing one thing and then do fifty. “Well, I can get just that one over there.” and “Maybe I’ll just clip this one branch to see how it looks.” I suppose it’s good because things get finished faster.

On the remaining side of the house, I still need to chop down a very large bush that’s somehow grown past the roof. I’ll include a picture below. I’m most likely going to have to pull out the chainsaw for this one. I don’t want to cut it all the way down – just about waist height. You’ll see how far I want to go when you compare it to the bush on either side of it. The only problem is, it’s going to look really bad for a while before it fills back in. But I don’t see how it can look any worse than it already does. Sometimes maintenance isn’t pretty.

I also need to pull up the remainder of the cement edgers on the same side as the big bush. I spoke with the neighbor yesterday and he wants to use some of them to line up around his pool screen room. The rain falls, causing mud to splatter all over the screen and he feels that lining these things up around the base, he can stop the splattering. I told him that he’s welcome to use as many as he wants.

Lastly, I noticed some white paint on a few leaves I trimmed from the bushes yesterday, indicating that someone painted this house recently. If you look at the pictures, you’ll most likely agree that either they didn’t do a very good job, the paint is stained by something or it’s washing off. Whatever the issue, the house needs a new paint job. I’ll most likely do this myself because I’m a strapping young male with the height of more than six foot to assist. I’ll get it done. We just have to decide on a paint color.

Okay, check out the pictures below. They’re the “after” shots of what I did yesterday.
