Swiss Army Knife vs. Leathman – Which is Better?

April 9, 2019

I have recently become fascinated by both the Swiss Army Knife as well as the Leatherman Multitool. I don’t see how I couldn’t have been affected because once you watch a video on one of these tools, you become addicted. At least that’s what’s happened to me. Now I want one of these things – or both. Both would be nice.

I have heard of the Swiss Army Knife since I was a kid and I actually used to have a knock-off. The one I had probably offered about 10 tools. Currently, I have a knock-off Leatherman that someone gave to me as a gift a few years back. I was just playing with it and it’s nice, but nothing special. It’s obvious it’s a knock-off.

My question is this: are either of these knives/tools worth it to purchase? Does anyone ever actually use the tweezers, toothpick, plier combo? I saw a Swiss Army Knife that boasts about 85 tools. The thing must be four inches wide. I do love it and I would love to own it, but it costs approximately $465. I can’t pay that much for a handy tool. The Leatherman I’m interested in costs approximately $120. It’s called the “Surge.” Another nice Leatherman is called the “Wave.” Both are pretty awesome. That second one only costs around $100.

I already have a large survival knife, so I don’t really need a pocketknife. I don’t need a small saw, because I’ve got both a hand saw as well as a bow saw. I’m sure the small tools of both of these options would come in handy one day, so I’m undecided about the whole thing. What I think I like most here is the tools themselves. They are so compact and useful. I am a dude and I like this kind of stuff.

So, which do you prefer? Do you own either? If so, what do you think of what you own? Was it worth the money?
