I worked quite a bit today. I shoveled for the first part of the day, but was on the computer for most of the rest. I looked out the window and noticed that it was dark out. That is very depressing. I always get depressed from the Winter dark. It seems like it is starting to get dark the minute I go outside in the morning. I guess that’s from the sun being so low in the sky. Whatever the cause, it bugs me.
I think I do the same thing every year…I get on the computer and look for a website that will tell me when the sun is going to rise and set for the next few months. Actually people, the sun doesn’t rise or set. We are revolving around the sun. Please make no mistake.
Anyway, I found a great website today that tells the sunrise times, the sunset times and what altitude the sun will be in the sky in your state. The site is called, “TimeandDate.com.” I found a bunch of information on New York. Did you know that the sunset time in New York gets later and later in longer intervals every day? I always thought it was about thirty seconds a day after the first day of Winter. Shows how much I know.
So, if you are interested, take a visit to this website to see how long it’s going to take to get out of the Winter rut of darkness.
I found your site looking for historical sunrise/sunset data. I live in Florida and have noticed considerably hotter summers and considerably colder winters. Global warming would account for the hotter summers, but not the colder winters. So, I suspected that the earth is possibly “tilting” on it’s axis. This would expain things. However, I cannot find any data to prove or disprove my theory. Seems like I hit a wall trying to find sunrise/sunset data. I have found tables that compute it based on a mathematical model, but I can’t find any raw data. I would really like to find a site where the ACTUAL sunrise/sunset data has been recorded (someone with a stopwatch actually recording it daily).
The earth is SUPPOSED to be tilted at a 23.5 degree angle in relationship to the sun. If it is tilting to a steeper angle, this would mean longer days in the summer, and shorter days in the winter. If it tilts too much, then the north pole would become tropical in the summer, while the entire Southern Hemisphere would be in complete darkness for 3 months. In the spring and fall, the equatorial regions would become tropical, and during the winter, everything would flip flop. So, here in florida we would see summer high temps around 150 degrees F, and winter temps of minus 100 degrees. It would be a bad day.
Im not a kook or conspiracy theorist, but I don’t trust anyone to tell us if this were happening. I work a 7-4 manufacturing job, just your normal Joe. I’m not trying to prove this IS happening, just to either prove or disprove it either way. The easiest way is to look at sunrise/sunset data over the past 50 to 100 years, it shouldn’t change much.
Again, I am not a crazy, but to quote your own words:
“I always get depressed from the Winter dark. It seems like it is starting to get dark the minute I go outside in the morning. I guess that’s from the sun being so low in the sky. Whatever the cause, it bugs me. ”
Why else would the sun be lower in the sky???????? Maybe there is something more to what you are saying than you think.
If you have any links to sites that might help, shoot me an email.
Thanks, Good Luck.

Carl,
I don’t care whether you are a kook or not. Just that fact that you are thinking has earned respect in my book.
