I’ve been writing on blogs since 2005. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that it’s not easy. I even venture to say that my greatest challenge has been dealing with myself. If I could count the times I wrote it, then removed it, then wrote it again – I’d be amazed. And that’s not to mention how many times I’ve made a blog live only to make it die again. Let’s just say that my biggest enemy has been what I’ve got lodged between my ears.
The catch is this; people generally have a tendency to think they have a lot to say. They tell me, “No man, I’ve got it all up here.” while pointing to their head. I try to rationalize them and interject with a short, “You’ll see.” It’s not what they think it will be. But time and time again, friends of mine either try to shove all aspects of their lives into one blog, overloading something that should have been split into pieces, or thin things too far into what should have been all together. I guess you really don’t know what to do until you give it a try.
Well, since I’ve had about eight years of practice and thousands of blog posts and articles under my belt, I’m willing to say that I know when to say when. I’ve decided that Jiu-Jitsu is finally a large enough part of my life for it to go out on its own. And here we are. I like to call it JayJitsu. I didn’t make it up – John did. When I’m on the mat and I get creative, John yells out, “JayJitsu.” I suppose it makes sense. A combination of my first name with one of the things I love. Nuff said.
My plan for this blog is to dissect every aspect of what was once a living breathing piece of Jiu-Jitsu into something that can be found on the side of a road. I want there to be nothing left when I’m done with it. That’s part of who I am, so I think it’ll be good. It’s also fun, so I think it’ll have good reception. Anyone who’s starting along the path of this game is surely looking to others for their experience. I did it – all my friends did it – so I think the trend will remain. That’s where I come in.
I don’t want to get into shop talk too soon here, but I do want to go over an idea I had for this blog. I actually came up with it a while back. What I’m planning on doing is taking a whole mess of video, then pulling out screen captures. This way, I can easily narrate what is going on, at an ultra-slow pace. It’ll look something like this:
Of course, this is very simplistic and there’ll be video to go along with most pictures and vice-versa. I’m hoping to go into more detail than I ever have before.
