I’ve been trying to express the thoughts conveyed in the video below for years. I’m not sure I’ve done such a great job of it because it seems that every time I mention the flaws in our great society, I get push back. Not serious push back – probably something more along the lines of crickets chirping in the comment section at the end of the post or people turning around to walk the other way. I guess those of us at large don’t like to discuss our addictions. Cell phones, tablets, texting and talking being some of them.
I came across a video this morning that shows Louis C.K. and Conan O’Brien discussing some issues with cell phones. They talk about how these things fill the void of the loneliness we all feel. They talk about how they obstruct the recognition and development of normal human emotions and how they are going to be detrimental to children. It’s good stuff and the thousands of comments I’ve seen following this video around the internet are testament to that.
Watch the video and let me know if you think what these guys talk about is true. Do you think kids should have cell phones? Have you ever been the victim of a “drive and call (or text)?” When you get bored or lonely, do you scurry around looking for something to quench the loneliness or do you simply enjoy the moment? I’d love to know.
