This is quite a popular thing to do in the Jiu-Jitsu arena. It’s popular because it can give you great insight into schools around the world as well as many great memories and stories to share with others.
Visiting other Jiu-Jitsu schools that is.
I have many friends who enjoy dropping into various academies when they travel. Throughout the years, we’ve had many new faces at our school of those doing just that. It’s pretty cool because most Jiu-Jitus guys really like to mix it up with new bodies. Me included. Sometimes I do well. Sometimes I don’t. I usually do horribly with those who have 20 years wrestling experience, but who fail to convey that information to us. All we have to go on is their nice, shiny new blue belt that’s hardly ever worn. But that’s a story for another day.
Anyway, I just read a pretty good article by GracieMag covering what you should do if you plan to travel and drop in on other schools. There are some good points, so you might want to read this one.
