I have been wearing my Koral Gi jackets for way too long. I must have told you about them somewhere along the lines, but if you aren’t aware, the collars are curling in an extremely annoying way.
I know I put them in the dryer a long time ago. That must have done it. Koral prides themselves on how “rubberized” their gi top collars are – they’re difficult to grip in competition. But having them curl after a few years of use is driving me up a wall. Take a look at the picture below and tell me if this is normal.
Okay, I’ll answer the question for you. No, it’s not normal and what it does is it causes me to have to constantly tuck the jacket back into my belt. Whether I’m rolling or standing or bowing out after class. It seems like I’m the only one tucking the stupid thing in time and time again. I’m so used to it by this point that I’m beginning to think it’s normal.
I was talking to my good buddy on Tuesday before class and he told me about a few gi companies he’s looking into. I asked if he could send me over some links because I’d like to look at them. I’m in the market for a new jacket – the Jiu Jitsu ProGear gi pants I purchased a while back are working out splendidly. But if I can find a decent jacket/pants combo that I really like, I’ll do that.
He sent links for Killer Bee, Gorilla Gear and Origin. I looked through all three sites and think I’ve settled on Origin. I like their style and way of thinking.
The guys from Origin are out of Maine. They posted a few videos of their shop and I gotta tell you, it’s right up my alley. They’re just doing it up there. I respect that.
G’s Making Gis – Origin BJJ Manufacturing
The gi I’m thinking of purchasing is the Origin Pro Comp 2013 and since I’m standing at about 6’2″ and only approximately 178 pounds, I’m most likely going to get the A3 tall jacket and the 34″X32″ pants. Origin says their material shrinks, so I’m hopeful that it’ll fit properly after a few washings.
The gi is just under $200 though, which is a little hefty in the way of price. I’m not concerned though because if they’re as well built and fitting as they say they are, I’ll be a happy camper (and roller).
I’ll let you know when I get it and I’ll take some pics of it. Hopefully with me wearing it. That sure would be nice.
