Since I haven’t rolled in a few days, I’m in a bit of agony right now. It doesn’t take long for withdrawal to kick in and when it does, I get jittery.
Anyway, I have a few things I’d like to work on tonight. After having time to reflect on what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks, I’m going to follow the lead of Kevin. He’s super methodical when it comes to technique and I rarely see him out of sorts. When he goes for something, he sets it up, gets into position and finishes it. If he did what he was supposed to do correctly, he would be rewarded with success. If he missed something, he would have to deal with a reversal. I know I rarely reverse what he’s going for, but I’m not sure how other guys fare. I’ve usually got my hands full when I’m not dealing with him.
I want to work my guard, but in a different way. I want to work it as slowly as humanly possible. I want to see if all the lessons I’ve been learning and areas I’ve been discovering are actually effective. I’ll try out my grip game, my cross grip, take back, omoplata and all the rest. I’m going to steer clear of my triangle tonight. I’ll come back to that another time, but for now, it’s test time. I think the methodical approach is going to open my eyes a bit because it’s concept and technique driven, as opposed to luck driven. Anyone can get what they want by bouncing around like a lightening bolt, but can they show what they’ve learned over the years in a slow and diligent manner? We’ll see.
