Graham Swamp and Jungle Hut Beach

May 25, 2013

Today’s goal was to wake up early to go alligator hunting. We wanted to get out there before the sun really came up and the air began to get hot. Unfortunately, I woke up at 6:13, suggested that we get going, only to be rebuffed and then woke up again at around 9:30. Why she let me sleep so late while she was sitting there waiting for me, we’ll never know.

In these parts, all the alligators hang out at a place called Graham Swamp. This swamp is located south of Palm Coast Parkway and to the right of I95. If you were to go off the main Palm Coast exit, you’d be there in less than 5 minutes.

I began watching videos of alligators down in this area about 6 months ago. I’ve never actually seen a real one in the wild, so I have to tell you, I’m excited to get my chance. Unfortunately, today wasn’t the day. After we finally got out of the house and to the swamp, all we were able to see were the mere waves of two gators – gators under the water and lilly pads. We did see them though and they were moving quite fast.

We took a bunch of pictures of the area and I’ll post them below.

After we were finished looking for alligators at the swamp, I suggested that we head over to the beach for a little dip. She was wearing pants because she thought all we were going to do was alligator hunt, so she wasn’t able to dip. I was wearing shorts, so I dipped. No pictures of that, but lot’s of pictures of the beach and surrounding areas.
