I think it’s a Garter Snake and I think it’s a Mountain Laurel. I know the bush is some sort of hybrid (I think).
Anyway, as we were sitting on the front steps this morning, drinking our coffee, watching the Chipmunk run around to gather the bird seed, we noticed something odd. The Chipmunk, who never does this sort of thing, started climbing the bush next to us. I said something to the effect of, “Hey, look. That Chipmunk is climbing the bush next to us. He never does that.”
Then, simultaneously, we both said, “Is that a snake?”
It sure was. There was a Garter Snake just chilling in the bush. Apparently the Chipmunk went right up to him to give him a sniff too. I didn’t see this. I was inside getting my camera for my next National Geographic moment. And you can see that moment below.
