Our tomato plants have really taken off in the past few days. Even though it’s been raining pretty much every day around these parts, it’s yet to have any ill effect. I figured by this point, we’d lose something to over watering. Well, there is the papaya plant that’s not looking so hot, but I’m not going to blame the rain for that. I’m not quite sure what I’ll blame yet. When I figure it out, I’ll let you know.
A few of our tomato plants are now producing flowers. Even though I’m merely an amateur, I am confident that means I should be seeing little green tomatoes any day now. And if the number of flowers is any indication, we should be seeing quite a few. I have my fingers crossed.
During this morning’s walk outside to check on the plants, I noticed a few small baby papayas growing on the papaya tree. I’m not sure they’ll become anything, because as I just mentioned above, there’s something going on with this one. All the bottom leaves have turned yellow and have fallen off. The top leaves are still green and new ones continue to grow, but I don’t have much faith the plant will make it. Would be kind of cool to have papayas growing in the back yard though.
Besides that, we’ve got a fig tree that sprouting tremendous new growth, bean plants that are climbing their way up the new bamboo stakes I put in over the weekend and a few funny looking strawberries. All the other plants are growing nicely and if they can make it through this rain, I think I might actually have the first harvest of my life. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
