It’s been nine days since I wrote my post on our new fig tree cuttings and I wanted to give a quick update.
Now, if you remember what I said about our first batch, you’d remember that I completely ruined them. With those cuttings, at this point, I had them in some soil or moss or water. Whatever the situation, I had them too far gone to grow. This time around, we’re using simple water in a cup and they seem to be sprouting just fine. Take a look at the pictures below.
The leaves are growing rather slowly, but at least they’re growing. I think they’ll really get going once we put them in the sun. Also, if you notice those small white dots on the wood – those are actually the beginnings of roots. They’ll grow further and once they get about an inch long, we’ll place the clippings in some topsoil I purchased last night from Lowe’s and sit them in cups on the kitchen counter. When they seem strong enough, we’ll put them outside.
With these cuttings, we’re thinking of giving a few away to friends. I don’t actually know if we will or who we’ll give them to, but I don’t think we need eight fig trees floating around this place. We’ll see.
