I remember saying goodbye to Chris in the parking lot of Jeff’s place last week. We were talking about where I would end up in Florida, school-wise and he said that it took his friend John three different schools before he found his “new home.” I’ve been thinking about that and I’ve also been thinking that I should really take this opportunity to see what this state has to offer in the Jiu-Jitsu arena.
I already experienced Fight Science on Flagler Beach. Good school and an excellent owner/instructor. I’m still pondering his style. He’s one of those people you can’t let slip through your fingers. Tomorrow morning at 11, I’m heading up to St. Augustine to experience a new school called, Fighting Chance BJJ under Roberto Traven.
Roberto Traven – Spider Guard
I spoke with Julian (owner’s son) yesterday and got the scoop on the school. He explained that they’re primarily a competition school, but they have a mix of all types of students. They have a core competition team of about 10 guys, but there are many others who just want to roll, go to sleep and then wake up for work in the morning. I’m one of the latter, but I wouldn’t mind going a bit hard to train with the others. Julian said they had an open mat yesterday that lasted 4 hours. Nice.
I’m hoping I have a good time. Fighting Chance is about 45 minutes away from Palm Coast, so it would probably be just a two day a week thing. I’d have to stay for a few hours to get my Jitsu in, but hey, that’s how I “roll.” Haha. I’ll let you know what happens tomorrow.
