I was lying in bed this morning thinking of my hometown of Brewster, New York. It seems that every time I do this, my recollection of waking up to sunshine some time in July, only to walk out the front door onto the sidewalk, comes to mind. I can recall doing this over and over […]
Ramblings & Opinion
Some of my best posts can be found in this category. I ramble and I opine. That's what I do. I absolutely try to stay away from politics though. There's no faster method for losing a reader than to offer a political opinion - on anything. Otherwise, I discuss philosophy, books that I've read, my thoughts on the state of the world, some passive aggressive thoughts and ideas regarding friends of mine, wonderful stories woven into lessons I feel I need to share, as well as other silly topics that I'm sure no one else on the planet cares about besides me.
The Funniest Things That Ever Happened in my Life
I was talking to a friend last week when I told him about some old posts I wrote a long time ago. If I remember correctly, they were written in 2007 and 2008. Boy, I’ve been doing this a while. Jeesh… Anyway, I told me friend that the posts had to do with the funniest […]
The Wonderful Introvert
I found a video about a month ago and had intended to write a post about it, but apparently life got in the way. I began doing other things and unfortunately closed the browser window I had the page saved in. Last night, while searching through various TED talks, I stumbled across the video once […]
I Have Discovered My Life Goal
With only one day to spare, I have come to a decision. I’ve finally discovered, and admitted to myself, my life goal. The goal I’d like to die having completed. Now, I didn’t just come to this decision this morning. I’ve moved around for years, visiting a number of places around our country, loving, hating […]
An Allegory Of Happiness
Among other things, I did a lot of work yesterday. I’ve been plodding away at the same project I mentioned I started about six months ago. It’s yet to bear fruit. I have reserved confidence that it still may. And if it does, the fog will lift and I’ll think again once more. During an […]
Life Is a Series of Course Corrections
It’s funny, every time Summer rolls around, I dream of taking very long vacations while snowmobiling in the Arctic and every time Winter rolls around, I dream of disappearing to some tropical island while laying on the beach all day. Unfortunately, I’m a forgetful person. I forget about about the humidity that Summer brings and […]
After Thursday Night’s Class
I’ve been having difficulty writing anything with much true “insight” on this blog lately. It seems that my motivation peaks directly after class, which is usually around 9:15PM, and then fades considerably every minute thereafter. I’ve said time and time again (as I did just last night) that I’ll post the hundred or so thoughts […]
An Update On This Whole Man and Crocs Thing
I don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but I seriously underestimated popular sentiment when it comes to this Crocs and dudes thing. I mean, just yesterday I was a lonely guy living in Connecticut who happened to be wearing a pair of rubber shoes – but today – BAM – public enemy number […]
Men Who Wear Crocs
A few weeks ago, I had a little problem. I don’t have it anymore because I solved it, but up until a few weeks ago, it was driving me crazy. I like to wear slippers. No, not the big fuzzy ones that have stuffed animals attached to the fronts, but regular old, plain Jane slippers. […]
Self-Defeating Statements
A few days ago, I took a trip out to Martha’s Vineyard. We left Rhode Island on a ferry and arrived at the Vineyard about an hour and forty minutes later. It was a nice day. On the ferry, there were all sorts of characters. I’m sure you can imagine the bunch. From the golfers […]
A Good Measure of Virtue
A few weeks ago, I was doing a little research on the meaning of “Virtue.” This isn’t a word I use all too often (or ever), but have been noticing its use more and more around the internet. It’s fairly common for me to investigate something’s meaning if I feel it’s important to today’s world. […]
Interesting Personality Traits of Entrepreneurs
As I mentioned in a recent post, I am reading a book called, “A Handbook For Ethics” by Robert C. Solomon. I am about a quarter of the way through it and am finding it very informative. You would laugh if you saw my task list. I am constantly jotting down ideas to write about; […]
USPS Tracking – Seriously?
Can I ask you a question? Why does USPS tracking exist? I mean c’mon. It doesn’t update at all. The word here is “tracking.” I would assume the system would “track” the package. Ya think? Well, not exactly. I’m sure that you all have ordered and have had packages delivered by FedEx and UPS. You […]
How Long Does It Take To Turn Into A Herb?
I am going to tell you a short story. Okay? Okay. The other day, my lady decided that it would be a good idea to clean out a closet that she had claimed a long time ago. She made it hers way back when we first moved into this place. It happens to be the […]
Happy Friday
I guess it really doesn’t matter if it’s Friday or not, we work seven days a week ’round these parts. Yeah, we should really stop that. Well, it’s kind of hard to stop working when it’s like 100 degrees and absolutely disgusting outside. I have been intermittently venturing out daily for some small landscaping projects. […]
What Does “LOL” Mean?
When I was writing my “Emails From Crazy People” post, I was like, “Man, my readers are totally going to love me for bringing them such uplifting humor.” I did. I really did. Well, while some people thought that emails from crazy people are funny, I got more action from writing LOL. Now, I’m not […]
Emails From Crazy People
For all my friends, this one’s for you. If you are like me, you have a number of websites or blogs that you check daily, just to see what’s going on. I have a few blogs written by friends and then a few blog/websites put together by communities. These communities are quite entertaining, let me […]
The Rest Of The Summer
Laura and I are watching Lost over again. During the first go-round, either I missed a few episodes or she did. Neither of us had the complete picture of what happened during season 1, 2 or 3. Let’s face it…things really didn’t start getting hot until maybe season 3 or 4. Anyway, we are all […]
Happy 5th Of July
Do they have a 4th of July in Canada? haha. Old joke. So it finally stopped raining. I am hoping this lasts for more than just a few days, but I doubt it will. It’s about 70 degrees outside and I would say that it’s perfect, perfect weather. You can’t get much better than the […]
Daylight Saving Time – Here We Go
Every year, many of us get a little tickle in the stomach when we set the clock back for daylight saving time. It’s basically the activity that tells us winter is pretty much over and spring is about to begin. As I have mentioned over and over, I hate short days. This extra hour is […]
The Problem With Facebook
I have been sitting back for some time now, watching and listening to people’s opinions of Facebook. They are wide and varied, but lately, I have been hearing some grumbling. I have heard it from friends and I even heard it on the radio this morning. That’s what prompted me to write today. For those […]
Days Of The New, Nice To Meet You
I played a little tennis this morning. I didn’t know if I was going to make it, because the weather was kind of rough out there. I gave the club a call about 45 minutes before the clinic started and they let me know it was “on.” If I tell you one thing today, let […]
Baby It’s Dark Outside
I just got off the phone with my brother. It’s like talking to myself. No, he doesn’t always copy me, he’s just a lot like me. Or, I’m a lot like him. He’s a few years older, but I’m taller, so I call him “little brother.” Anyway, we were talking about how damn dark it […]
Living The Will
There are a few things in life no one wants to talk about. Of course I am not going to mention what they are here, because they will only depress me and will probably do the same to you. Included in the list, but really shouldn’t be, is one thing that I don’t think is […]
Standing In The Sun
I was lying in bed last night at around 12:30 just thinking about the ins and outs of life. I turned to my side and noticed that one of the backyard motion detector lights had clicked on. They aren’t too difficult to notice…they basically make the window shades in the bedroom glow. Over the Summer, […]
Some Days, I Don’t Have Anything To Write
I know it’s hard to believe, but sometimes, I sit here and think of stuff to write and come up short. I hear this a lot with blogs…writer’s block. I never thought I would have it. I’m not sure I do, I am really just not in the mood sometimes. I don’t think life is […]
My Morning Walk To The Mailbox
In my last post, I said that people need to start writing more. I said that our readers don’t care what we write about, just that we write. I even threatened to take my camera out with me this morning. Well, guess what. I did just that. Since I had to go to the mailbox […]
The Mother of All Wasteful Credit Card Offers – With Pics
Just in case you haven’t seen it on the news or read it on countless blogs, there is a little problem out there with waste. We are wasting everything we can get our hands on, which, in turn, depletes the earth’s natural resources and fills up landfills. If I thought hard enough, I could probably […]
Today Certainly is Another Day
Today was another busy day. I spent a good majority of the day organizing things online. I would tell you what they are, but I have this thing about telling people my secrets. Oh well. I will say that I find it simply amazing that I am able to wake up every morning of my […]
Reusable Shopping Bags
I was in Home Depot over the weekend getting some stuff. I was in the molding aisle when I overheard some dude talking to a nice couple. We were all in the same boat…looking for molding. The dude and the couple were talking about recycled materials used in the molding…I think. Then, somehow they got […]
Meeting Craig For Breakfast
The other day, Craig and I decided to meet for breakfast in Newburgh. I thought this was a great idea, because we haven’t seen each other in quite a while. He had to pick up some parts in the area, so it was easy for us both. I had a pretty uneventful drive to the […]
Another Day in the Life
This place stinks. I mean, it really does. I woke up this morning with a plan. My plan was that I was going to make a plan…no, I mean it. I am talking about the kitchen. I’m sorry, but whenever I think about sanding and spackling walls, I get very demotivated. It’s helpful to think […]
Goodbye, Au Revoir, Adios
Goodbye, Au Revoir, Adios, Sayonara, Auf Wiedersehen, Bis Dann, Arrivederci, Hejdo, Ciao, Le’hitraot, Sampai Jumpa, Paalam, Zai Jian, Zoi Geen, Farvel, Namaste, Fir Melenge, Feri bhetaula and Do zobaczenia. To the friends I have made over the past five years, I will miss you. I really will. Anyway, until we meet again.
How To Be Environmentally Friendly Without Being a Grinch
I have had this post on my “todo” list for some time. I am not really sure how to write it without people getting mad at me. It seems like every time I write about something that threatens people’s ways of life, I hear about it. I can understand that, because I wouldn’t want someone […]
Does Spinach Make You Stronger?
I was just thinking about this really funny thing that my friend, Rob and I did when we were younger. Rob and I do some very funny things together and this is one of them. One day, Rob walked up to my house. I forget what we were talking about, but “Spinach” came up in […]
Please Forgive Me – I Did a Horrible Thing
I opened my birthday present early. My mother emailed me a few days (or weeks) ago and told me that I should be receiving a box from Amazon. She told me not to open it, and I didn’t…until last night. I was so proud of myself too. I even called her up just to tell […]
Iron Maiden Troubles
I was just telling someone at work here a very funny story from my long torrid past. This is a good, but short, one. Back in sixth grade, I had this girlfriend named Janet. I am not sure why I had a girlfriend at such an early time in my life…she may have seduced me. […]
Why Be a Vegetarian?
Well, there are many reasons. There is one thing I really don’t talk about in my life, and that’s being a vegetarian. I still eat seafood, so I guess I’m not really all the way there yet, but I try damn hard. The reason I don’t talk about it is because every time I do, […]
Learning To Speak Spanish
Hmmmm…what am I going to do next? As you may have noticed, I need to have a steady flow of personal projects to keep me happy and motivated in life. I am very high maintenance. I remember back in middle school, I started learning my first foreign language…French. I took French for three years in […]
Buying Computer Glasses
Yesterday, I ran over to the optometrist for an eye exam. I am 33 years old and my right eye is getting a little blurry at far distances. I think someone said that this is nearsighted. I am always a little confused at what nearsighted and farsighted mean. The doctor gave me the exam and […]
We are Doomed
Today, during lunch, I took a ride up to the Lowes in Poughkeepsie, NY. I was looking for some residential window film. I have doing a little research on this product because of its heat blocking and UV radiation reduction attributes. I figured this would be a good thing for the front of the house […]
Corporate Jargon Update
Here is an update to my hated corporate jargon list… On my way to work this morning while listening to NPR, I heard an interview between the DJ and someone from Eckerds. I am not sure who it was…maybe the CEO or something. I believe they were talking about Eckerds buying out CVS or something. […]
How To Deal With Junk Mail
Can you believe the amount of junk mail you receive every day? When I get home from work, I walk to the mailbox. I usually have a smile on my face and some pep in my step. I open the mailbox, and to my dismay, I discover a heaping pile of wasted paper. A few […]
Am I an Angel?
My sister Stephanie and my nephew James came up to visit on Monday night. I had a plan for Tuesday. I would bring them up to Woodstock, NY (more about that in the next post). Well, on the way there, we got a little side tracked. I took Rt.3 North to Rt.28A to Rt.28. It […]
What’s Wrong With Education?
From time to time, I am going to be posting entries from other people besides myself. I think this is a good idea to get some discussion started. As you may have noticed, I can be one dimensional at times. Now, I will identify which posts are not mine and will give credit to the […]
Corporate Jargon – You Gotta Love It
You gotta love this…if you work in an office, you most certainly have heard the following sample list of corporate jargon. Perhaps you haven’t heard all of them, but I am sure you have had the pleasure of listening to the cooler people in your office rattle these things off, day in and day out. […]
The Toll Booth Drag Race
Here is the scene – you are on a nice trip with your family (or just on your way to work, like me) cruising down the highway and you cross a beautiful river…ahh, the Hudson River. You cross the Newburgh-Beacon bridge to stumble upon the toll booths that are on the Beacon side of the […]
A Car Named Linda
This post really has nothing to do with anything, but I thought it might be wildly funny. That’s right…WILDLY funny! I was on my way to the supermarket yesterday around 5PM. I was driving in one direction and this little Suzuki SUV thing (you know, the little ones that you can buy your eight year […]
What Are We Doing?
I just read a great article stating that in March of 2005…at that point in time…there were 40,000 – 50,000 new blogs created PER DAY. Ok, that’s a lot of blogs. Granted, most of these blogs are set up, posted to a few times and then fall into the abyss. This whole revelation got me […]
