I need to know the answer to this question. My friend and I got in a heated “conversation” last night about this stuff. Now, I’m into getting out there just as much as the next guy (or girl), but I’m not into something that costs a lot of money that might never happen. My friend was yelling at me, telling me that he needed to get a “bug out bag” and fill it with medicine and emergency items. I was like, “For what?” I mean, has anyone ever taken these bags into the woods or where ever they plan to go with them? We’ve watched enough shows on Netflix to know what the scene is about, but I have yet to hear a story of someone actually grabbing their bug out bag and fleeing to safety. It’s all fun to watch other people spending their money, but when we’re all trying to save for various things and people want to go spend hundreds of dollars on some bag full of stuff that’s going to sit in a closet, I feel as thought I have an obligation to give my opinion.
I read a story about a hypothetical bug out situation and I’m not sure if we’ll ever face something like it. I like the idea of being ready for what they call “shtf” scenarios, but I also want to be realistic. The last time I saw my friend like this, he was trying to get me to invest in silver. Luckily, he outgrew that phase.
So please, if you wouldn’t mind, inform me of some realistic scenarios that actually have the possibility of occurring where I live (Maine) and I may be on board. I’m really not against any of this. Convince me.
