The Iris is, by far, my favorite flower. I’ve been blogging about the Iris since I began blogging way back in 2006. It’s a remarkable flower and its beauty is unsurpassed, in my opinion. Even our friend, Vincent van Gogh, thought the Iris was beautiful as you can see here.
Usually, our Iris flowers bloom by Mother’s Day. Things are a bit late this year – I’d say a full two weeks, because of the long Winter. Laura took two pictures of what we’ve got as far as Iris bloomage today.
I think the reason I like the Iris so much, beside how pretty the plant is, is the fact that they grow by way of rhizomes and, if given the space, will spread like nuts. Years back, I dug up all our Iris plants, cut the rhizomes and replanted them all over the property. The next year, we had Irises everywhere. I love flowers that I can spread around like that.
We’ll surely take more photos as these guys open up, so stay tuned.
