You don’t see this every day.
For that past few days, Laura has been chasing an owl around the property. I believe she initially spotted it fly through the back yard from a few different angles. The frequency of this owl’s visits led us to believe that it lives close by – probably in the back pines somewhere. We’ve got some huge white pines back there and it’s really the perfect place for an owl to live.
Back and forth, back and forth – “Bob, I think I saw him,” she’d run in and tell me. Today was good for spotting owls, I suppose because when Laura ran downstairs to indicate she had the owl in her sights, this time it was for real. Sitting outside the bathroom window was this:
Barred Owl
None other an a young Barred Owl. How cool is that?
Now, when we see a large bird fly over the house or through the yard somewhere, we may be able to give it a quick identification. We’ve got some wild birds here. First, we saw the Bald Eagle, then the Great Blue Heron and now the Barred Owl.
