I have been getting somewhat into video recently and have moved into an area that Youtube can’t handle. Well, an area their editing tool can’t handle anyway.
Here’s the thing – I am going to be taking longer videos and am going to want to add audio to those files. I am also going to want to save the raw audio and video footage for later use. I’m not saying that Youtube’s video editing tool isn’t awesome, but I want more control over what I’m doing. I feel like once I upload and edit something, I’ll never be able to reedit for a different use later on. That’s not good because I don’t want to lose something that might turn out to be really popular.
So I started looking into video editing software. I did a few searched online for the “best free video editing software” and “best video editing software” and found some results. Little did I know, I had the answer right under my nose. Here’s a list:
BEST FREE VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE
– Microsoft Movie Maker
– Apple iMovie
– Avid FreeDV
BEST VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE (that’ll cost you something)
– CyberLink PowerDirector
– Corel VideoStudio Pro X4
– Adobe Premiere Elements
– MAGIX Movie Edit Pro
– Roxio Creator
– Pinnacle Studio HD
– Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum
– Roxio Video Lab
– ShowBiz DVD
I think I used to have Adobe Premier installed a few years ago. I played around with it a little, but since I didn’t really have any use for it, it didn’t stick. Anyway, here’s the funny thing – I have Microsoft Movie Maker installed on the computer I’m typing on. It comes packaged with later versions of Windows. Since I have a 25″ monitor, I think making movies won’t be all that difficult. I also found…I don’t know…a zillion video tutorials on Youtube for this program.
Here, check one out:

It’s a little old, but I’m sure the basics are the same today.
Royalty Free Music
The one thing about Youtube is their pretty good selection of music to add to your video. The only problem is that once you add their audio, you are limited in certain respects. Because of this, I’d like to find a nice source of royalty free music. That way, I can build my library for future projects. If you are aware of any popular sources, please let me know.
