The Kitchen Installer is Gone

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

The installer finished up here at about 7PM. He worked his butt off today. I was second guessing that it would take two days to install a , but I was wrong. All the trim work took a long time. The majority of the time was taken up hanging the , installing the knobs and handles and the cutting and nailing on the kick plates. I hate that kind of work and he was very good at it. He made all my improvements look kind of amateur…wait, I am an amateur. That makes me feel better.

There is still some work that I need to do myself, like hang a piece of wood right above the , hang the around the ceiling, hook up the plumbing for the sink and a bunch of other little things.

I am going to show you three photos of half of the . I moved all the junk to the other side, so when that’s all cleaned up, I will take some more pictures of the rest of the . We feel so much better actually having counter space and (almost) a sink back. When the gets here, I am going to feel like I live in a palace.

I moved the back into its spot. I found some stainless steel cleaner and it worked wonders on both the and the . The space right above the is where I need to put the piece of board. I want it to be snug.

I really like the way the corner cabinet goes to the ceiling and the way the moulding hugs all the . It makes that corner a focal point.

Me (again) amazed that someone can cut moulding so nicely.

I got thinking today. Perhaps I should measure the up and bring the measurements down to Lowe’s. I read, on their website, that if you bring your measurements to them and pick out what you want, they will give you a price right there. Then, they will send someone to your house to measure again. I think that visit costs around $100, but they apply that money to your total purchase. I think that’s a pretty good idea.

I am having this battle in my head…it’s between using Lowe’s or the local place we have up the road. I have to keep telling myself that we have only two more years in this house. We just need to fix the and plan for the next people to make it their own and not necessarily be in love with our design. Again, we can only get so much for a two bedroom, one bathroom home in this area. That, I believe, calls for something other than granite for the , if you catch my drift.

So this is the quick diagram I put together. The measurements are accurate, give or take a quarter of an inch. We still have to pick out a stainless to match our and , but that shouldn’t be hard.

I am going to give Lowe’s a call tomorrow to get the scoop. Then, Laura and I will plan for a visit on Wednesday. Hopefully, then I will have some photos for you.
