Justa Rollin’ Right Along

We got about 20 steps away from the car when I noticed the lights on the trees at . “Oh yeah, can we go back to get the camera?” I asked Laura. I thought I would ask nicely, even though I was already headed back.

Can you imagine me out and about, not attached to my camera? If the shoe were on the other foot, I would probably be pretty annoyed by this point. When you’re 10 years deep with someone, you tend to let things slide a little. With my personality, a lot slides.

We did a little up at this afternoon. I went up to finish purchasing the office . I made a little list. It was on my Blackberry…another annoying trait, I’m sure…Blackberry-itis. Either way, it came in handy. My list was this: small table, floor lamp, and . I knew I could get everything but the at . Perhaps I would pick that up another day. Can you believe I have had my hands on like 50 in my life and have none to speak of? I worry that I am going to put a dull “circle” in my new from rubbing the mouse around directly on the . Either I get a big piece of glass for the top of the entire or I get a . I think the with do.

We went in to and looked around a little. It’s always the way…when you go in for something in particular, you seem to wander around aimlessly for a long time. If you go in with no money in your pocket, you want everything in the store after 10 minutes. After a while, I decided that I really didn’t need another table, since the and cabinet I already bought still sit empty. Also, the garbage can was $57. Laura’s response said it all when I told her the price. “What?” Okay, forget that one, I’m no fool.

I settled on a nice Chelsea Floor Lamp Base with a medium shade. It’s funny, sells the and the separately. Sorry, I’m used to .

We thought an hour was long enough in that store, so we left. We wandered over to Williams-Sonoma for some items I had on another list. Out came the Blackberry again. By this point, I began hiding it. I hate people with Blackberrys. Seriously. I don’t want to turn into that guy, but folks, it’s getting very difficult for me. There honestly are good reasons for using it.

I mainly needed things to assist me in making my next pizza. I have a killer herb pizza recipe and it is a true winner. The only problems I have are rolling out the dough, grating the cheese and slicing the pizza. Oh, that’s all. So, with that in mind, I picked up a rolling pin, a cheese grater and a pizza cutter. I also got a nifty french fry cutter that I have been wanting for the longest time. I make a mean sweet potato fry.

There, the items on my lists were all crossed off.

We left.

Half way back the the highway, I said, “Ooof, I totally forget to take you to lunch.” That had been my plan all along, but unfortunately, that wasn’t in my Blackberry. Oh well.

A few thoughts very quickly flew through my head…”Maybe I can get away with it and we can just eat something at the house,” and “Maybe we can quickly pick up some takeout,” and “Maybe we can just eat tomorrow,” but finally I thought, “Jay, stop being such a dirtbag and take the girl out to lunch.” Ladies, we all think it, I’m just the only one who has the guts to write it.

I tried, I really tried to get to in one shot. Nope, couldn’t do it. I must say, the around here are a little tough if you have no idea where you are going. I do use the , but if you have absolutely no idea of what direction you are in, it’s very hard to get places. I haven’t been able to “orientate” myself yet. It’s the whole “84″ and “384″ thing that throws me. It seems like there are a bunch of “off ramps” that turn immediately into “on ramps.” Do you know the kind? I don’t think anyone handles them well. I do, but when I am on the regular highway and someone is trying to get off one and I am trying to get on one, it seems like we just drive side by side staring at one another until I force them to slow down and I miss the on ramp. I have done this a million times. I did it again today. You think I would learn.

Anyway, I was coming back from Manchester, trying to go to and ended up on the other side of the river. Go ahead Liz, laugh. I know you already are. I am sure you can also imagine my face turning red while I was cursing out all the stupid drivers who caused me to end up in this mess.

We made it to Boulevard at about 4PM. I really wanted to take my lady to ’s for a late lunch. We turned down the road and I started getting my swagger back. “Oh yeah sweetheart, here we come. I hope your taste buds are turned on because this handsome old man is…what, ’s is closed? Oh MAAAAAN!!!” We drove past a few other and finally learned that these places are dinner , not lunch and dinner ones.

Since we were an hour early, I had a few thoughts run through my mind again, but I won’t put you through that again. We thought that a little food at would help pass the time. I also secretly decided to take her to Max Fish, instead of ’s. That was my little bit of trickery and deceit. We spent about about a half hour at and the next half hour walking around in the cold. The cold felt really good against my face, strangely enough.

To make a long story short, we ate at Max Fish. Here are a few pics of the event:

I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to offer a short review of both Max Fish and ’s. Here we go…

When my bother and I left ’s over the , I told him that I just ate one of the best meals of my life. It was really incredible. I went and told Laura about it and have been trying to get her to come back with me ever since. In the meantime, my and I went back to the and basically ate the same meals again. Since they were no surprise to us, the first time may have seemed a bit more satisfying.

This evening’s meal at Max Fish was delicious. There is no doubt about it. After we left and began in the car, I started thinking out loud. I thought, “You know, I just basically ate the same thing I ate over at ’s, but ’s was half the price. The Ceasar Salad over at ’s was actually better than Max Fish too. If I want to go out for a , I will go to either , but if I want to eat, I am going back to ’s. The at ’s were much bigger as well.”

There you have it folks, the strangest review ever given. And to think, it only took a half hour of reading to get to it.

Pottery Barn Aris Large Desk

The portion of my new office arrived this afternoon. I have to tell you, I am loving .

About a week and a half ago, I received the console table I ordered. I was very pleased with the quality. Today’s is going to make me go back for more. It’s the kind of that you look at and say, “Wow.”

The is the Pottery Barn Aris large desk. It said something about being framed in some hardwood, but all I know is that it looks .

This is a big change for me. I am used to sitting at a pretty high on a chair that is the height of a stool. This is the traditional 30 inches, so things are a bit lower, but actually more comfortable. I now have too.

There are a few more things that I need. We are going to take a trip back to the store next week sometime to pick up two small , a garbage can and a floor lamp. I should be set for a while for this office. Now, for the other office, that’s another story.

Shopping The Shops At Evergreen Walk - Again

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

We had a pretty fun night last night.

Initially, we planned to make a quick trip up to Bob’s Discount Furniture in Manchester. We need a whole lot of . We need to furnish the entire bedroom, , , my office and some odds and ends elsewhere. Needless to say, this is going to be tough.

If there is one thing in life I am cheap about, it’s . I have no idea why. Perhaps because it’s not screaming “necessity” out at me. I mean, what’s wrong with sitting on an up side down bucket? Ahh, history. It’s not in my nature to go spend thousands of dollars on something that is just going to sit there. It’s not like a is going to help mow the lawn or a is going to clean the . Geez, is one of those things that looks good, but doesn’t do too much else. I need some sort of purpose with the stuff I buy.

Regardless, it needs to be done.

We drove up to Manchester to visit Bob’s. This is one of their larger stores with a whole “used” and “damaged” area in the back. There is galore back there. It has dings, dents, cracks and anything else you can think of. The place is huge. The whole front area is reserved for the brand new .

We walked in and were presented with a nice . I liked it, Laura kind of liked it. As we walked on, we saw some things that she liked and some that I liked, and vice-versa. I am not sure we were in agreement, but we probably could have been if we stayed longer.

As we walked around, I noticed a candy station. I walked over to it and started eating the chews. I don’t know what was wrong with me. I put some in my mouth and then shoved some in my pocket. I then took some other candy and stuck it in my pocket. I am not sure who was controlling me, because I certainly don’t eat candy like an idiot (which I was at the moment). Laura was looking at me in disgust. She had a look on her face like, “Give me the keys, you are being abandoned.”

Upon discussion, we decided that we would leave Bob’s. Nothing really jumped out at me. I mean, it’s a great place for couches and stuff, so we’ll go back for that. We’ll get a few couches and maybe a Bob-O-Pedic matress set.

We got back in the car and decided to head over to Raymour and Flanigan . I have always heard good things about this store. We were nearby, so there wasn’t much deciding to do…the only factor was that we were now in the middle of rush hour and I hate cars. Whatever.

We walked in Raymour and Flanigan and were greeted by a nice sales lady. It kind of reminded me of a used car lot. I still had chews in my mouth, so I couldn’t really talk. She started laughing at my grossness. When I was ready, I asked if their was solid hardwood. She replied that it was, but there were a few pieces in the back that we should steer clear of. OK, fine. That’s fair.

We started walking around and I began noticing a strange trend…this was obviously made by the same makers of Bob’s . We saw many similarities, one not being the price. It seemed that they tacked on a few thousand dollars and upped the quality slightly, but it appeared that whoever made Bob’s made this as well. I may be wrong, but that’s the way it looked.

You should have seen me, I was under the trying to see if they were made of real , pulling out to see what kind of runners were used, wiggling things back and forth, checking the quality. Things were just OK. If I had to choose between the two, I would head back to Bob’s and save some money. I think both places offered similar that would last about the same amount of time. This, of course, is my very uninformed opinion.

Laura and I looked at each other and decided to wash our hands of both places. We knew of one place that really makes us drool…Pottery Barn up at Walk. Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ bout.

We walked in and picked out a . Yup, it was that easy. It’s the Hudson Collection that can be seen here. We already knew the quality of that sells and really didn’t need to inspect it. Every time we go in this place, we look at the stuff, so it was really easy. The only problem is that the prices are in a whole different realm than the other two places.

OK, moving on. The end of the year is coming and I need office . We walked to the back of the store and I picked out a nice little item called the “Rhys Console Table.” This is a perfect little place to put my fax machine and printer. Also, I can use the for random things that are currently sitting on the floor.

Then, we looked through the catalog and found a nice called the “Aris Large Desk.” I have had my eye on this for some time. We bought the console table and are having it delivered. I had to wait to order the online, because that’s an only item. I did that last night. They are going to deliver that in a few weeks.

Now, all I need is maybe some sort of shelving unit and a chair. That’s it for the office.

We were pooped from , so we left.

I have been meaning to stop by L.L.Bean to grab some more waffle shirts. I have two that everyone already makes fun of. One of them is salmon colored and has a picture of a salmon on it. Since I am a trendsetter, I ignore this fun poked in my direction.

As we were walking to the car, I asked Laura if she wanted to go to L.L.Bean for a few minutes. I mean, it was right in front of us. What the heck, we went to the store.

Hey, wouldn’t you know it, they didn’t have any waffle shirts. What they did have is some awesome “Corduroys”, some “Two-Layer River Driver’s Shirts” and a really marvelous “Merino Wool Sherpa ” that I have been looking to buy for about 10 years now. Oh yeah, I also picked up this amazing black “Fitness Fleece Jacket” that was calling my name too. Don’t you like my use of attributive adjectives?

Boy, what a night. At least I learned a lesson from all this…which is…I need an . I am sick of paying for shipping.

A Night Out At Evergreen Walk in Manchester

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Last night, after we went to , we stopped by The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in , . It’s near Manchester. We had to visit to get some plates and and things like that.

I am not even sure how this turned into a blog post, but since I did have my on me and the night was just perfect, I started shooting away. Leave it to me to suck the romance out of anything. It was quite romantic. It was dark out and there were so many couples . Just as I was mentioning to Laura that everyone was , I realized that I wasn’t. I grabbed her hand and made a night of it. Of course, she looked up at me with that big smile.

I told you I took some . These aren’t the greatest, since I was dark, but they’ll do.

This is a photo of Evergreen Walk in South Windsor looking in one direction.

Shopping at Pottery Barn and Eating at Carrabba’s

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

On Thursday night, my met Laura and me up in Manchester for dinner. Laura and I left a little early so we could visit Pottery Barn at Walk in .

I really like , not for its fame from a certain “Friends” episode, but for its quality . I need some office , so we went to browse. We didn’t buy anything, but checked some stuff out for another day. I would say we need a bunch of things. Besides the office , we need a , and end , to say the least. One day it’ll all be complete. For now, we will focus on one item at a time.

After we left , we had some time to spare. We wandered over to Williams-Sonoma to check out their stuff. This is another really good store, but expensive. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s expensive when you really compare quality. A few minutes in there and we were ready to go. I would say that the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk is a very nice place. It felt like we were down South on a vacation.

A few minutes later, we pulled into the parking lot of Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Manchester. My has been raving about this place for a few weeks. He just loves the bread.

We all sat down and ordered. A few minutes later, the brought over the bread, which was very good indeed. After that, we ate and ate and ate (the main courses). It was sinful. When we were almost done, the asked if we needed anything and my mentioned that I wanted more bread. I said, “No I don’t” kind of embarassed. She offered to bring me a loaf to bring home and I accepted. Just a bit later, the nice and very kind brought me three loaves of bread to bring home. Wasn’t that nice of her?

Every time we go someplace, I ask Laura to remind me to take a picture of whatever we are doing. Every time, I forget and she never mentions anything. When I sit down to write about it, I end up not having any . With that being the case, today’s photo is of the bag we brough the leftovers home in. In this business, you need to be creative.

A New Chandelier in the Family

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Do you know how hard it is to find a good looking Chandelier? I mean, there are tons of them out there, but they all look so…so… or . Kind of like, everyone will know where you got it…ya know?

We have been living here for almost 2 years and we have yet to find a Chandelier that we really love, so I made a bold decision today - I would just go buy the best one (I thought) in the store. I called Laura from and she looked online to agree that this is the most unique one for what’s out there. Even and didn’t have much.

dsc01780.jpg

We really like the on this bad boy. It looks like it would be something like had in his house. While I was at , I picked up a nice and hooked it up to the light for an added bit of romance. You never know when there’s going to be a little extra spice in dinner. I am very romantic, you know.

Well, what do you think? You like?

PS - You better get ready for some gardening and landscaping talk. I already bought a bunch of stuff and planted it. I’ll save that for next post.
