My New BlackBerry Curve 8330 Smartphone

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Well, I decided to upgrade my old 700w for a nice, new 8330 Smartphone. I thought it was about time to jump on the -on-your- bandwagon. We are planning some activities and vacations this Summer, so this will cover one base.

So, let me tell you about my experience.

I have many addresses, all forwarding to one address. It makes life a bit more simple. When I got the phone, I went through the quick setup. After that, I went in and configured an address. It was basically inputting the address and password. After that, I logged into and clicked “settings.” I clicked “Fowarding and POP/IMAP.” There, I enabled POP.

Then, I sent myself an . Low and behold, I received it in my account and my Blackberry. Truly, I thought this was amazing. Then, I clicked delete on the Blackberry. I had the option of deleting the message from just the phone or both the phone and the account. I deleted it from both the phone and the account. A few seconds later, I noticed it disappear from . Again, I was stunned.

After that, I did the whole thing again, except this time, I deleted the message from first. I waited and waited for the message to disappear from the Blackberry. After a little research on the web (and ), I found out this is not possible. The messages stay on the Blackberry until they are deleted from there. Why? I have no idea. This is going to be kind of a pain in the butt, but I’ll figure something out. I did a search for “ won’t reconcile” and I think I read somewhere that if you are using the BlackBerry Enterprise (or something like that), you can reconcile your messages with your client. Until I find some information, I don’t know how to reconcile the on the Blackberry with , or for that matter.

The other issue I was having was that whenever I would send an from the Blackberry or from , I would receive a copy of that on the Blackberry. I needed to find out how to stop that. I called and, while on hold, did a search for “blackberry getting copies of sent ” on . I found a nice website that instructed me to login to the Verizon Wireless Blackberry Internet Service (BIS). No one seems to tell you these things from the company. At this point, picked up and we both created an account and created a filter for my address. Basically, the filter stops my own address from sending me . This forum post will tell you exactly how to do that.

Otherwise, everything is very smooth. The Blackberry syncs up with my so I can have my tasks, contact list and calendar on both my PC and the Blackberry. This is not too much different from the 700w.

I’ll let you know how it works on the streets when I have had it for a while.

Recent Windows Update

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

I run Windows Vista. It’s ok. I am not the kind of guy who goes nuts over out there. I am sure there are some great features with other ones, but I needed a computer because I have work to do.

I have been pretty happy with Windows , although there are some strange things that never seem to work correctly, like ActiveSync. I am not sure why Microsoft can’t seem to get this right. I am running a operating system and running Windows Mobile on my PDA. Why is it that I have to break the relationship every so often, because the phone refuses to sync with the computer? I have no idea.

Recently, I purchased and installed it. At about the same time, my computer restarted itself to finish installing the most recent updates. Ever since then, whenever the computer goes into sleep mode, I can’t wake it up by shaking the mouse. I used to be able to do this. Now, I have to give the power button a quick push to wake it up. That’s fine, but what happened?

It just puzzles me that it is always a guessing game with what’s going to happen when I install some or update existing made by the same people.

Upgrading to Outlook 2007

Friday, November 16th, 2007

I have had this on my to-do list for a few weeks.

The other day, I ran up to Staples and grabbed the latest version of Microsoft Outlook. I wanted to upgrade because my previous version, XP, was becoming a little buggy since I got Windows Vista. On the calendar, instead of showing one appointment, it would display one for every year that has passed. If I put one appointment in the calendar in January of 2000 to happen every year, there would be two of them in 2001 and so on.

I also upgraded to because I couldn’t find an alternative program that would easily sync with my 700. That is all I use it for…contact, tasks and calendar.

It’s pretty good. Things seem kind of slow on it though. I am sure there are many more features in this version, most of which I will never see, because I don’t use it for .
