The Basement the Way It Should Be

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I have been telling Laura that it just feels better to watch TV down in the . I explained that I always felt kind of guilty just sitting around in the . Having everything, “ feels much more “right.”

I must say, it’s quite comfortable down there. I set up the in the other room and cut additional in the wall. I also set up a fan for . Because it’s a , it stays much cooler than everywhere else. That, coupled with , results in a pleasant experience.

We already set up the small (with cover) along with the little end table. I have the lamp and phone nearby. I have the lamp on a timer so it doesn’t get forgetten about at night. I also set up all the electronics down there. We now have four with some bass on the way. I still have some gift cards I need to use up. The bass is already run.

Next week, my brother is going to help me carry the large down stairs. Actually, we will take the outside and back in through the door. Once we get an and a , I think we will be set up. Well, that and the , which should be started at the end of this month.

Hmmm…you know, I just realized that this whole project has left a big empty that needs to have the done and walls painted. Hmmm…weird.

The House is On the Market

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Well, we went back to our house in to do a final cleaning and get some stuff we in the kitchen. On , I thought it was just a few things. Today, I realized it was a full . When I say , I mean, trying to find a place to squeeze a in full. Again, it was a full . I even had to leave my two red behind. These were five gallon that I used to fill up the lawnmower. One of them was full, so I poured the gas into my car and then gave them to my , Tim (who by the way missed us very much already. We miss him too.). I didn’t think Laura would appreciate me making her carry them on her lap. I am such a .

We cleaned up all the rooms and mopped the floors. I did a little touch up painting throughout the house and cleaned all the windows. When I took all the down, there were small left in the walls. I filled the holes and painted over them. I thought that would be a good idea since the house is empty. We cleaned the kitchen and bathroom very, very thoroughly. It never looked so good. When it was all done, I took a step back and realized the amount of work I actually put into the place. Someone is going to get a very good deal…the house looks brand new.

I really think the big sellers are the huge screened in and the ’ new kitchen. The wood mixes just perfectly with the and the walls. I am going to miss that kitchen. If you remember back, that was about a of eating on the and in the bathroom. I never even peeled the protective plastic off the face of the . Brand new dryer and semi-brand new washer. It’s the whole package. The new floors and in the help, but it’s all about the porch and kitchen.

Ok, enough selling. I just thought I would tell you that the house officially goes on the . We were going to wait until Tuesday, because we were going to do the cleaning on Monday, but Laura reminded me that there really was nothing to wait for. The sooner we list, the sooner someone can purchase.

I will tell you this…it is a little weird seeing a real estate sign hanging in front of the house you were just sleeping in a few nights ago.

Holly Waaay Too Comfortable

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

It seems that lately, when we come home from some time out galavanting, we open the door to find Holly spread out across the . It’s not the worst thing in the world, but we have to remember that she is the hairiest dog alive, so it’s really no good to have the hair on the . We constantly tell her not to jump up on the , but she only speaks “dog,” so she doesn’t understand.

We caught her today before she woke up. Oh yeah, she’s a great . When we walked through the door this afternoon, we stood there for about a minute listening to her . She woke up only after she heard us turn on the camera. She is scared of .

I remember back in the day when I used to with my dog, Mickles. We would lay there . When I would wake up in the morning, he would be next to me just looking at me. He would actually have his head on a pillow, just like a big red-headed human. When it was time to get up, I would have to push him out of the bed. He abused me.

Wolaver’s Oatmeal Stout

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

I have some good news and about my batch of . I will tell you about it in my next post. For this post, I would like to tell you about a I picked up today. Well, actually there are two types of , but this post is only about one.

This morning, we were sitting on the , when I said, “If we were to do something today, what would you want to do?” I really didn’t have anything in mind, I was just curious. I was happy sitting around all day. Well, to make a long story short, we ended up at Place in again. I know I said before that I was getting a little tired of the up there, but the combination of the getting out of the house, , and bagels gets me every time. So there we were.

We did get a bunch of today. I thought it would be a good idea to mix things up, so we got a bunch of veggie , like a lot of rolls with in them. I am excited for later. As usual, I grabbed some bagels. On the way to the bagel area, I passed . I have never (that I know of) eaten before. I asked Laura if she wanted to get some, when I remembered that I bought her that new KitchenAid mixer for her birthday. There is an attachment that goes with it that makes pasta. Now, you know that went on my to-do list. We voted against the for today.

What this post is really about is the new I got. I picked up a 6-pack of Wolaver’s Oatmeal Stout and wanted to tell you all about it.

Why am I buying ? I’ll tell you about that later. Anyway, this one is pretty good. I cracked the bottle open and poured it in my trusted glass. It poured like a nice dark and tastes kind of like one too. I would say this is a very good one that might be appreciated by people who like dark , but a bit lighter than the rest. It has a “thinner” taste and doesn’t overpower you like that I have had. This is a very drinkable and I would buy it again.

There you have it. Now, for my home brew story, please see above.

Flight School - Lesson #5 - 5:30PM

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

This lesson was scheduled after work, because I used up my days off for the year. Good thing they renew tomorrow. I am going to start taking , so I can take my lessons at about 1PM. I think that would be the to fly. Mornings are good too because a nice lesson wakes me up.

I am a little razzled after work, so I needed to relax a little before getting in the plane. I needed to get in the zone. I was sitting on ’s like a when walked in. He was wondering why I wasn’t doing to pre-flight. Ok, getting in the zone…over.

I did the pre-flight and we taxied to runway 26, which threw me for a loop. It’s amazing how used to one runway and one pattern you become in such a . The wind was different today, so we had to mix things up. I learned that this was a right pattern runway as compared to runway 3’s left pattern. That threw me for a loop too.

Ok, taxiing done. Run-up done. Radio calls done. number one was smooth. This lesson was to go over touch and goes again. Incidentally, touch and goes are a little taxing on the . There is a lot to do in a very . The pattern is not that far of a distance and there is not much to play with. I made it a point today to use more of the rudder and to start using the as a guide more than the instruments. This works much better and gets me more used to the plane like I am supposed to. Imagine with your nose stuck in the , and . Not going to work well.

There were about 2-3 in the pattern today. There was a really nice Columbia up there with us. I found the I want. This sucker at 190MPH. There was another plane that came into the pattern later on from the left instead of the right. His radio call that he was entering the pattern on at a 45 concerned us a bit…because if that radio call was correct, he would be coming straight at us. took over at that moment and tried to find out where he was. We couldn’t find him at all. Apparently, since he thought it was a left pattern, he was all the way over on the other side of the runway. No wonder he was no where to be found. That’s why I like having a good instructor…it’s second nature for him.

Since there was a faster plane up there with us practicing touch and goes as well, we had to practice some slow flight waiting for him to do his thing. I am not a fan of slow flight…it’s ok, but you really have to keep your eye on the airplane’s pitch and speed. Too much pitch or too slow of a speed, the plane can stall and you will need to immediately recover. It keeps you extremely alert. We also practiced “crabbing” the airplane due to some wind coming from the North.

We made 4 landings and on our last one, asked if I remembered what to do if I lost the engine. I said I did. Of course his next move was to pull the throttle to idle. He said, “Land it.” I completed the proper steps and started my final approach. It is very difficult to maneuver in slow flight…so I had some difficulty. I pulled up the last click of flaps and slowed the plane down too much. Ok, that would’ve been a landing in the grass. Another note to self: keep your speed until you absolutely know you will make the runway. gave the airplane some throttle so we were further down the runway and I landed the plane.

I have to say, using the rudder more liberally improves my landings by giving me more maneuverability. Also, using the as a guide lets me focus more on the airplane more comfortably. It feels like I “own” it more.
