Some More Landscape Lighting

Friday, August 29th, 2008

There is something that really bugs me about myself. I think I’ll tell you what it is. My brother has the same problem. We I get something in my head, it rarely leaves until I satisfy it. Many times, it has to do with a project I am doing and it involves me going to the store to buy something. I am a pig.

With that said, I decided to beef up the I installed the other day. I mean, it looked good and all, but I didn’t think it was enough. Ever since I went to Punta Cana and saw what the resort did with landscape lighting, I have been intrigued. I like the effects of at night. In my humble opinion, it’s really cool.

Now, I know you remember the six landscape lights that I set up just the other day. I bet you thought that was pretty cool. Well, that was nothing and personally, I thought it was a bit wimpy.

I decided to go back to to get six more , but this time I got six low voltage flood . They are wicked cool. I also had to upgrade the 121 pack to a 300 pack because there were more in the system. That wasn’t hard, it just cost more money. By the way, if anyone wants to set up their own system and needs a 121 pack (good for about ten low voltage ), let me know and I will give you the old one.

So now, we have six low voltage and six low voltage flood that face up towards the .

Take a look at what I’m talking about…

How cool is that? Just a few brought the place from dark and boring to warm and inviting. I think it looks great, but would love to hear what you think.

Landscaping In The Front Is Finished

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I don’t know if you are aware of this, but I have been busting my butt to get the front area of the landscaped. It wasn’t all that difficult because things were in pretty good shape. I really like areas, so I decided to add a few. Keeps the down, if you know what I mean. Also, it just looks damn good.

After a few trips to the local store for some and a lot of and digging, I can finally show you some photos of my hard work. I think you will be impressed with my perfection.

Here you go.

Photos Of A Morning Glory

Friday, August 29th, 2008

A while back, I can’t even remember when, Laura got a Morning Glory. I can’t remember if it was some or the plant itself. What I do remember is that she decided to plant it in front of the .

Well, it has been a month or two and now the thing is huge. It has overtaken the and is starting to cling on the siding. I have to trim it every so often.

The other day, I noticed some nice blue on the . Since I have never had any experience with this type of plant, I decided to go in a tell my lady. Upon informing her of the exciting news, she turned to me and said, “Yeah, I know.” That was it. Like, c’mon.

After that, I did what I do…I grabbed the camera and started taking some pictures and here they are…

Yesterday, I noticed that the wasn’t looking so good. It was drooping a bit in the sun. I didn’t mind, because I am actually looking forward to getting rid of the so I can have a little space back. This morning, I looked at the plant and it was back to life, bloomed and all. I told Laura about this and she said, “Yeah, I know. That’s why they call them .” I need to stop having these conversations.

While I was out there taking pictures, I decided to take some of one of the we have in the . I can’t, for the life of me, remember what it is called. The neighbor told me what it was, but I forget. I have a lot of stuff on my mind all the time. I really don’t listen all that well. Can you believe people blame me for this?

Well, whatever they are, here are a few good shots of them…

I told you in my last post that I was going to take some pictures of the freshly installed at night. Well, guess what I just did. You got it. I took some pictures, but at , not night. I am not sure they would have come out at night.

I think I have a , but they aren’t bad. Here, check them out…

New Sidewalk Lighting By Malibu

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

As you may know, I have been doing a lot of work outside trying to make things look nice. A lot of sweat has gone into these projects. Things are rolling along smoothly and actually getting somewhere.

I have been visiting the local store every few days to get a yard of . I can fit twelve bags in the car, which is actually about a yard and a third. It’s good enough to do smaller areas. Once you start raking, doesn’t go all that far.

I am up to the front area of the . I weeded the whole area this morning in preparation for the I purchased at yesterday. There were already three out there, but two of them were out. I decided to buy three more and a set of . I got the “Do-it-yourself” metal , because they matched the ones already installed.

These are pretty nice. They are about a foot and a half tall, made of metal, use 11 watt and are really easy to install.

Since there were already some installed, but I like to do things my own way, I decided to take them out, along with all the wire. With the 50′ of outdoor wire I bought yesterday, coupled with the existing wire, I had plenty to add three to make a total of six.

After I did all the and pulled out the wire and fixtures, I assembled all the new . Each one took just a few minutes. I installed the and re-ran the wire so it accessed all of them. I changed the time on the outdoor and took a look. Miraculously, all of them worked. I am very excited for it to get dark tonight to I can attempt another picture. I am hoping it will come out so I can post it here. Then, you will see the pure beauty of my work.

After I showed Laura what I did, she suggested that we put in some small that aim at the from the , facing upward. I am sure you have seen them. There are a few that have those types of in this and I get jealous when I see them. There is nothing worse than a naked, dark at night time. Well, I’m sure there are some things worse than that. But still, it’s all about the .

New Wilton 5″ Multi-purpose Vise

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I have been wanting a for a long time now. Picture me trying to sharpen a while stepping on it on top of a cardboard box. Yeah, I have been wanting a .

Every time I have checked for the I wanted at , they were out. This has been going on for some time. The 3″, 4″ and even 6″ were always in stock, but those didn’t have the features I was looking for. For some reason, the 5″ had everything…twist, tilt and spin. Why they decided to stick these features on this in particular, I don’t know.

When I was in yesterday, I decided to go look for the …again. To my “shock and awe,” when I peeked down the aisle, there was an extra box on the shelf (these things don’t move too often). I walked down to see if it was the one, and to my joy, it was.

If you take one look at this baby, I think you will know exactly why I am excited. I mean, c’mon, look at it. Sweet, clean and pristine.

I am going to mount this on my movable that I made. Then, sharpening the will be no problem at all.

My First Nice Bike Ride

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Yesterday, I decided to start riding my bike in the morning, when it’s cooler outside.

I think we were going for a walk when I came up with that idea. You know, as I was out and about…I always get good ideas. When morning rolled around and I was drinking my coffee, let’s just say I was less enthusiastic.

Even thought I was still groggy, I stuck to my word. I got on the bike and started to ride. For any of you out there who have ridden a for any amount of distance, I am sure you will agree with me when I say it is great . I already knew that, but was reminded of it as I was struggling to get up the first hill. For those who know what “ Hill” looks like, this hill reminds me of that one. It’s not nearly as bad here, but when I was on the bike, it sure felt it.

I had planned on doing the 3.7 mile ride, but when I got to the end of the road, I decided to make a left and do the 5 mile one. I am glad I did, because I keep talking about doing it. There are tons of downhills and uphills. The uphills are much less fun, but my legs got a great .

This area is really great for recreation. I am very pleased that people take it so seriously around here. On the last part of the ride today, I had to go through the . That was fun because I got to “get some air” off a few . You know what that means, I think I might need to get a .

The Pellet Stove Was Inspected

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The town inspector came by today to inspect the freshly installed . It passed, but with a little story.

When the inspector was reading through the manufacturer’s manual, he couldn’t find the part that said clearances only need to be 9″ from and if a fresh is used. The reason he couldn’t find it is because it wasn’t in there. When I realized this, I began to sweat. Then, I remembered that the updated version of the manual was online…that’s where I got those clearances from. I quickly went upstairs to print out the pages I kept telling him about. I ran back downstairs and gave him the paperwork. He approved the install with no more issues.

I really like this because we don’t need a protective layer between the stove and the floor, since it’s on the new . That’s pretty cool, as well as a money saver. Also, we used hardly any . That’s another money saver.

After the inspection, I called the place to complete the order for four tons of . I wanted to make sure the stove would be operable before finishing and paying for the order. They will get delivered in mid September.

I also called the company to inform them of the new . They liked this and added $11 to the homeowner’s policy. Not bad…

On the way home from today, I saw a sign that offered a cord of for $200. Boy, prices have gone up. Even were about $2.50 a bag a few years ago. Now, they are averaging about $5 per bag. If you were ever thinking about getting into a new business, alternative is it. This stuff is HOT right now.

Installing a St. Croix Prescott EXL Pellet Stove

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Well, the guys came over yesterday to install the new St. Croix EXL . As you might recall, our previous was a . I was a little nervous about switching brands because I had gotten used to . Also, has very good reviews. The reason I couldn’t get a this time is because they are all backed up and we may not have even gotten one this season.

It took the installers about 3 hours to finish the . When everything was in, they fired it up to make sure everything was working properly. One of the installers noticed one issue…the wasn’t turning, so no were falling into the burn pot. the motor was working fine, just not the itself. We made an appointment for the service guy to come out today. By the way, I could have fixed this. It was easy. I actually was almost done fixing it when the doorbell rang. That’s me beating my chest.

Today, the repair guy came out and fixed the issue. The small on the shaft wasn’t tightened properly, so it wasn’t catching on the motor.

I must say, this unit is very nice. It has auto-, which was very important. I am going to hook up a , so the can shut down and start up on its own. Also, the and fan is much quieter than the . The whole system just seems to be more elegant. For a few hundred bucks more, I am happy that I went with this model.

Here are some photos…

What’s nice is that the outside venting is under the porch. The necessary clearances are 24″ away from the porch and 12″ off the ground. Also, since we used the fresh air kit, the clearances from and is only 9″. I would say that’s one of the huge benefits of .

Pellet Stove Update

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Last Saturday, the came out for a site visit. He checked out the location of the and took a few pictures for the file. It’s good to have a site visit, just to make sure everything will be OK for the .

He gave me some papers to bring down to the town office for the . Things are a little different here in CT than in NY. Here, you have to fill out the information and then, the project needs to be approved by the inspector. This took a few days, because I am sure this fellow is out inspecting all these new people are putting in. In NY, I think I remember just handing the guy the paperwork and him looking at it and giving me the green . Back in the old town, you could pretty much put up a housing project on your front lawn and get it approved.

Oh yeah, permits here go by the cost of the project. The more expensive the project, the more you are going to pay for a . It might be that way in NY…I don’t remember.

By Thursday, the was approved by the inspector. I gave the company a call to set up an install date. We settled on this Monday coming up, which isn’t bad. I just want this thing in so I can stop thinking about it. I also ordered four tons of . Boy, those pictures are going to be fun.

This blog post is over. At this point, I have nothing else to add.
