What Just Happened With Rock of Love?

April 14, 2008 – 8:35 am | by jaygaulardcom

Ok, I will admit it, the writer’s strike forced me into a with . Actually, Laura started it and I just joined along. I think the only real show we watch is Lost.

My favorites in the reality sector are “ with Bret Michaels,” “’s Kitchen” and “America’s ” to name a few. Laura is all about the last one, not me…suuuure.

Last night was the for . I was so damn excited all day I could hardly stand it. Now, the show is so stupid and I know that. Bret Michaels from is . That’s understandable. There were some decent looking to choose from and there were some busted up looking . Why they let them through the door, I will never know.

The two finalists were and Daisy. Daisy is a nice rocker girl and 25 years old. She had some issues, but I was still on her side 100%. is 37 and has some control problems. It’s like she was everyone on the show’s . She was always having to control everything and was always yelling at everyone. She really pissed me off.

Have I ever told you I never get my way when it comes to stuff like this? I told Laura that I wasn’t going to be able to if he picks . The final moment came and he picked…. Wouldn’t you know it. Is he on ? I am so upset. I am just wondering what was going through Bret’s head. Bret, if you are reading this, please post a comment.

Next week is the reunion. Daisy gets in a Springer style. Life is too short to miss stuff like this.

Yup, college educated Jay Gaulard signing off.

I hate network TV, or in fact all TV in general. It limits the imagination and brain washes people with endless advertising for things that nobody needs. IF all the TV transmitters and studios were turned off, it would eliminate TONS of CO2 from that atmosphere as all that stuff uses a sh!tload of electricity. It would also liberate our minds and enable us to think for ourselves again. Then perhaps, just maybe, things like the Bush administration won’t be replayed.

You have a point. I feel the same about radio.

I have to think though, if I wasn’t thinking about Rock of Love this morning, I would just be sitting here in a daze not thinking about anything. Just staring out the window.

I am so proud of you - this is a whole side of you I knew nothing about.

See Gaulard, there is a downside to not leaving the house to go to work, you get drawn in to crappy shows. I am 100% on Paul’s side. Network TV sucks, and I am sure we will complain about it when I am there next (good topic to kill some time at work). Sitcoms like Family Guy, Law and Order, Lost are OK because they have intelligent people behind it. Reality TV should just die. If you want reality TV, go outside and walk around, it will probably be more entertaining and healthier. I personally cannot stand all the spin-offs. First there was American Idol, now there are about 8 shows that all have different people trying to win and all of them have 3 judges, how original. It’s worse than when Survivor first came out and a dozen “survival” shows came out. Now we have “Your momma can’t dance”, “your father can’t dance”, “you and your momma can’t dance”, “your grand-pappy’s uncle’s second cousin twice removed can’t dance or sing”. It’s just gotten way out of hand. Sad thing is kids know more about this stuff then math and science, it’s going to be a sad future. My generation is the last generation that actually understand how important school and the future are, the rest (like my younger sister) are too wrapped up into texting, MySpace(UGH), and reality TV. If you walked down the street and asked a young kid what the square root of 9 was they wouldn’t know, but ask them to name Britney Spear’s kids and they will give you their names, birthdates, and blood types. I’ll stick with the history and discovery channels thank you.

Oh you guys are such tools. Go ask your uncle what the square root of 9 is and he won’t know either. I’m pretty sure there are more dumb adults out there than dumb kids.

Back in the day, someone had to take a class on how to work a cellphone and myspace and now these kids are picking it up like it’s nothing. Look how much smarter the younger generation is.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention some of my other favorites…Rob & Big and Rock the Cradle. MAN!!!

Listen, you can’t be dull all the time. Sometimes you gotta get up and dance.

PS - I hear the ladies just LOVE the guy who watches the History Channel. When are you guys having your next party? I want to come over and boogie down to Shark Week.

hahahaha you crack me up Jay, made my morning.

I agree to your rebutle that the younger generation is smarter, but only with technology and the latest fads. We need people to develop those cell phones, not just know every shortcut and feature it can do. We can’t have a whole world of people sitting at home having a web business, we need edumacated people out there.

From going to school for the past four years all I have seen are less and less kids taking important majors. These kids love technology so much, then why is my Computer Science and Information Systems department dying and the number of available computer engineers and technicians declining across the country?

You are right about the History Channel and the ladies, mine turns it off to turn on your Rock of Love crap! =P

  8. By jaygaulardcom on Apr 15, 2008 | Reply

Actually, it should be “fewer” and “fewer” kids taking important majors. You gotta remember those English classes too Hannigan.

You better watch it with your lady. If you try to make her watch the History channel, she just might start commenting on my blog too.

actually Jay, I agree with you on the radio issue as well. As for myspace, cellphone classes, et al, It is always that way. The younger generation is more hip on the newer technology because they use it. After all, they are the target demo of all the advertising for cellphones, I-pods, texting, etc. After they see those ads on network TV, they go bother their parents until the parents cave and buy the crap the pitch man is pitching.

As far as actual smarts goes, I think there are smart and dumb people throughout the history of the human race. This generation is no different than any that came before it.

BTW, my uncle says the square root of 9 is 3.

Ah, you have a very smart uncle.

I wish I had MySpace when I was a kid. I was stuck writing paper letters to my PenPal Carlos in Mexico. What a waste of paper.

Now you have me thinking about all this advertising that goes on. It sure would be a shame if we weren’t pummeled every which way to Sunday about this “Green” thing. I must hear and read that stuff about 50 times a day. WHEEEEEWWWW. Every time I write a blog post about the environment, I get a damn CFL bulb ad on my page. DAMN THOSE BULBS.

For the record everyone, we watch our reality TV on a 15 year old 27″ television. Sure, a few years ago that may have been a big set, but not so much by today’s standards. I figure that if I want to work from 7AM - 9PM every day and then go out to the living room to watch some reality TV that makes me shoot beer out of my nose, more power to me. I give myself 14 hours a day to be a herb…after that, I let it all hang out. I’M LOOSE BABY!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot about Hogan Knows Best and Top Chef. YEEEE HAWWWW.

Jay, We really are in agreement with the “Green” thing too. I have to say that if people haven’t gotten that message yet, then the hell with it. I mean, enough already. Like everything else, it is a lifestyle choice. If I choose to eat turnips and wear hemp shirts, that is my perogative. If another guy want to drive a Hummer, that is his right. Who are any of us to say what the next person should do, so long as that person isn’t breaking any laws. And CFL’s are actually bad for the environment, just so you know.

How is the beer BTW? I have the rest of your bottles…

What are you doing? If you agree with me, you take the wind out of my sails and I can’t write sarcastic comments anymore.

People who drive Hummers are selfish bastards. They are gluttonous and pollute like they are the only ones on the planet. At least there is something we disagree on. Besides, the laws actually promote those who drive Hummers. Remember the Bush SUV tax break? Are they serious?

Anyway, the Stout is good. I am about half way through it. I am going to wait a few more weeks to start my next batch of Irish Stout.

You and I may differ in our winding down time. I do what you do all day to relax. I enjoy having a blog now and wish I started one years ago. Websites and all that jazz is my release from the day of dealing with “my mouse doesn’t work”. You would think that I wouldn’t want to touch a computer after all day, but I have never been ordinary.

I like to watch the “smart” channels because I learn stuff almost every night. Although it may be useless material, but I always like knowing as much as I can (when it’s interesting). Guess that’s why I took all the important classes and left English and that other crap for last. Reality TV makes me literally want to bang my head against the wall to remove the headache I got from it’s stupidity. I really cannot tolerate stupidity and the lack of common sense, but since I put up with it every day, I guess that is why I won’t put up with it during my relaxing time…..hrrmm maybe just figured myself out here….

Oh and about school, I feel like I haven’t learned anything this year in school except that I hate Shakespeare even more than before and health/gym class is a waste of time. People going for really hard majors and know what they want to be shouldn’t be bothered with bs classes. I would rather have my surgeon study only biology and medicine than have him concentrate on being well read in poetry. I have no use for things like health/English, and since I have a very good memory, I have to try and make more room in my brain for things I need to know. I will run out of room eventually, I can only compress so much crap…maybe one day I can upgrade my RAM, but wait that really smart scientist can’t figure that out because he was busy learning about history.

I’ll be honest with you…I enjoyed all the business classes I took at college, but now wish I took more English. I never thought I’d be writing so much. I also wouldn’t mind getting into some History.

I think, as you get older, you tend to expand into things that don’t have all that much to do with work. It keeps you well rounded and gives you something to talk about on weekends, on the golf course, etc… My mother has told me for a long time that many business deals have been made on the golf course.

My business attorney was a music major down at Purchase before going to law school. I kind of like that and we discussed it when he was selling me his services.

Now that I am constantly on the lookout for people to perform certain services for me, there is a big difference (in my mind) between those who say “Tom and I went…” and “Me and Tom went…” Presentation makes a huge difference throughout your entire life.

Trust me, you are one of the good ones. We have all met a lot of people and can tell the who is going to make it and who isn’t.

PS - I remember Shakespeare. When we went around the room at the end of the semester telling the teacher what we thought of the class, I was the only one who said that I really didn’t find much use for it.

Oh yeah, Hell’s Kitchen was on last night…Jason got the boot.

I agree with Hannigan on this one. The last thing that I needed was some pretentious English professor telling me that I should feel good about reading Oedipus. I won’t lie to you, it sucked. No, really, it sucked. I hated it. Hated. It.

What I also found completely valueless was the required sociology classes. I mean, do I really care about social injustice, recidivism, food stamps, unemployment, drug abuse, abortion, religious rights, minority crime rates, poverty (except the one on survivor) etc? No, I don’t because I am self centered and that stuff doesn’t affect me, at least not today anyway.

If I could find a “smart” channel on TV, I would watch it.

    Glad you like the beer…

  16. By jaygaulardcom on Apr 16, 2008 | Reply

Did you hate it? Have you ever noticed that those English professors are a little weird? It’s like…what the heck do they do when they get home. I am not sure why they keep pushing this Shakespeare. There are a bunch of other stories out there that people might not reading.

About your sociology class…hey, they had to prepare you for what you would encounter when you go to work in the morning. HAHA, that was a good one.

So, how do you feel about reality TV? I like it.
