I tackled the crown moulding in the bathroom last night. Have I told you that I really hate hanging crown moulding?
The room is almost exactly 5′x9′. It’s not too big, so I couldn’t cheat with two pieces of moulding per wall. I had to cut one piece each. This was easier than I thought, so it wasn’t too bad. I cut the pieces a little longer than necessary and then just kept trimming them until they fit snugly. I did run into a little issue though…For each piece, I drilled the holes for the finishing nails. I hammered all the nails in all around the room and wham, the last one didn’t go in. I kept hitting it and it bent. I use caulk to fill the gaps and nail holes anyway, so I tried to hammer the bent nail so it would sink into the moulding. Well, that didn’t work out too well. The nail is slightly sticking out. I am going to cover it up with caulk, paint it and give it a name for character. It’s in a hidden part of the room anyway. Otherwise, everything came out pretty well.
I will take some photos when I get it all painted up and looking nice.

I was just thinking about this really funny thing that my friend, Rob and I did when we were younger.
Rob and I do some very funny things together and this is one of them.
One day, Rob walked up to my house. I forget what we were talking about, but “Spinach” came up in the conversation. Now, everyone knows that when Popeye eats spinach, he usually kicks some serious ass. Rob and I decided to perform an experiment.
I had a can of spinach in the kitchen. He suggested that we wrestle, to determine who was stronger. After we did that, the person who lost would eat some of the spinach and then we would wrestle again to see if the spinach made any difference.
We walked out in the backyard and began to wrestle. I beat poor Rob into submission. He gave up and we concluded that I won the match. That was settled. We walked back into the house and Rob ate some spinach. He felt pretty good and I think he may have even flexed a little bit to intimidate me before the next match. I was unshaken. We again walked to the back yard and began to wrestle. Once more, I beat poor Rob into submission. He gave up and this time, we concluded that spinach does nothing for your strength in the short-run.
What’s the moral of the story? Rob, don’t mess with me. You’re just going to get hurt.

Laura and I were talking last night about wind energy, the government and how people do not want to solve the energy problem.
Paul and I had a little back-and-forth over the weekend about wind turbines in residential areas. I was against it and he was for it. The reason I was against it is because of the first photo he displayed in his post. I thought that something like this was inappropriate for a residential area. Then, I did a little research and noticed that certain companies are making residential wind turbines much sleeker in their look and use. I am now on board. Apparently, with the right height and wind speed, one of these turbines can supply a whole house with electricity.
Here is our (well, my) reason why anyone with any amount of power simply doesn’t want to really make any changes when it comes to energy…If the government wanted to solve the problem, they would have “gently forced” every property owner in the country to erect a small wind turbine on their property. I know, I know, that sounds strange, but think about it. The government can even pay for it. They got the taxpayers to pay billions and billions of dollars to go over to Iraq and…well, you know. Think about if the American government used that same money to purchase and have installed one wind turbine (or solar system) per property owner. Can you even imagine how much oil and coal that would save from being burned? We wouldn’t have to go over and…well, you know…the Middle East anymore.
Why is it that the only thing being offered right now are tax breaks that no one knows about? I hear more about “Barney” than I do about renewable energy incentives, and I don’t even like Barney.

…and I hope it stays that way. I hate surprises.
Just a nice day to writet a post about what’s in my head. Nothing too much has happened today. I am starting to have some issues with the second server with the horrible hosting company I choose not to mention. The server was unavailable for a few minutes today, so I sent support an email. I got two replies with the canned response…”We are working on it.” If I believed them every time they said that, I would be out of business.
I already set up two domains today, to move over to the new server. These domains matter, so I want them taken care of. I also plan on getting a fifth server for two other websites. Yeah, this is getting to be fun. I just need to get these sites away from this company.
In other news, I finished sanding the bathroom ceiling and walls last night and gave them some paint. The ceiling is white, so there were no surprises there. The walls were supposed to be a “bone” kind of color. We wanted them to be very neutral, so the dark furniture would offer a nice contrast. As I was putting the paint on the walls, I was pleased that the green was being covered up. After I was done, I stepped back to view a semi-pink bathroom. Laura even thought so. The good news is that the pink turned into more of a bone color after it dried. I wanted to get up the crown moulding last night too. No such luck. I plan on making the cuts tonight and getting that done. Then, I need to caulk the gaps in the moulding and paint it. After that, I need to get in touch with the tile place down the road and pick some colors. We also need to go shopping for a vanity and a mirror. It should be good.
That’s about it. Laura gets home late tonight, so I hope to have this done before she gets home. I hate surprises, but I love to give them.

This is getting rather entertaining. Well, I think it’s entertaining because nothing beyond some sites losing PageRank has happened yet. I don’t think anyone has lost any traffic. One thing is for sure, there are more than a few people who have lost faith in the whole PageRank thing.
I was reading this great article today called, “Google Drops PageRank For Many Sites : Paid Links or New Algorithm?” It’s a pretty good read.
Take a look at the article and click on some of the links in it. Ones like WashingtonPost.com and Forbes.com. What’s really interesting is their new PageRank. They are now “5″ and “4″ respectively. What happened there? My own blog lost a point and is now a 5. So, does that mean that I am right up there with WashingtonPost? I think not. WashingtonPost has 64,300 backlinks. Ok, there goes that relationship.
There are a lot of theories out there on what happened. I think, if you are interested in the whole thing, you should start looking at the sites that gained PageRank and not the ones who lost. That’s where you are going to find some answers.
PS - Some say that “Google PR” stands for “Public Relations.” If so, Google is doing a mighty good job of it. They are succeeding at dangling the carrot out there. If you follow that logic, you would think that bloggers would be rewarded with the whole PageRank thing, instead of being the main ones hit with the latest update.

I was reading again about the whole Google PageRank thing (which is getting rather nausiating) and came across a fun blog post called, “Six Common Punctuation Errors that Bedevil Bloggers.”
I try to proof read my posts, but I am sure that I make mistakes. The best ones are the ones that I don’t even know I make. I know that I use the “…” a lot. I am always sure to put the punctuation inside the end quote. I think I do a pretty good job with commas. People might disagree with that one because they don’t get how I write. Basically, I put a comma where I pause when I speak. I guess I write in spoken English. From what I have heard, people seems to like that.
Anyway, if you think you need to clean up your act…or your posts, you might want to take a look at the link above. If nothing else, it will make you feel smarter.
PS - Here is one I absolutely love. It’s when people use “I” incorrectly, such as, “Jeff and I at the mall.” or “Look at Jeff and I.” I think the whole “I” thing has been pummeled into people’s heads way too much.

I updated my Wordpress blog the other day to version 2.3 and noticed a clever new feature. Now, when I write a post, there is a small field at the bottom of my editor for tags. Tags are like categories, but you can make a bunch more of them without cluttering things up.
This new “Tags” feature works with a few Wordpress Plugins, including one called “Simple Tags.”
I started using this neat new feature and am very happy with it. When I place a few tags (words) in my post, they are recorded and displayed at the bottom of each post. The blog also automatically takes those tags and find any related posts and displays them as well. Basically, related posts are just other blog entries with the same tags.
Take a look and become mad jealous.

Well, there may have been frost already in New York somewhere. This was our first frost, anyway.
I was looking at the weather forecast yesterday on Weather.com and there was a “Severe Weather Alert” for our town. I was wondering what it was…a hurricane, a tornado…a flood? No, it was a freezing alert telling people to bring their plants in. How nice of them. I wouldn’t say that the first frost is severe, but perhaps for gardeners it is.

I kind of like it. Around this time every year, I think of moving up to the middle of nowhere in Vermont. Poor Laura has to hear about my dreams of being a mountian man or a yuppie couple out of a L.L. Bean catalog. I don’t quite know why I would want to move where it’s colder than it is here. Maybe it’s because there is sort of a tranquility with the cold. People move slower and are less rude. When there is a snow storm, it seems like we are all on the same side. To me, that’s nice. It certainly is better than giving each other the finger as we drive around in the warm weather. Well, now that I think about it, I could probably give someone the finger in a snowstorm.
In other news, we are now almost at the end of Clergy Appreciation Month. I didn’t even know it was Clergy Appreciation Month. I had to hear it on the radio this morning. It would be nice if someone told me something once in a while.
You may have noticed in the past few years that there are holidays sprouting up all over the place. You can search your country’s holidays here. Basically, every day is a holiday. If you don’t see one on the previous website link, they just missed it, that’s all. I am thinking that some of these holidays are people and organizations just trying to promote themselves. If it sticks, it sticks. If not, then oh well.
I am declaring this decade dedicated to Jay.
